The Maruti Suzuki Swift has been a favourite in India for almost 20 years, and the new generation keeps that legacy going with a fresh look, a new Z-Series engine and better safety. The biggest change under the hood is the new 1.2-litre Z-Series three-cylinder petrol engine, which replaces the older K-Series unit. The cabin has had a proper upgrade too. Other useful additions include automatic climate control and rear AC vents on the ZXi and ZXi+ variants, a wireless phone charger on the Zxi and ZXi+, a multi-information display, and steering-mounted controls, all of which make the new Swift feel noticeably more upmarket than before.
Safety has moved up a big step as well. Every variant gets 6 airbags as standard, along with Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Hill Hold Assist, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat anchorages, and reverse parking sensors, all standard across the range, not limited to any one variant.
Overall, the Maruti Suzuki Swift continues to strike a great balance between performance, efficiency, practicality and running costs. It may not be the most powerful hatchback around, but with its proven reliability, huge service network, low running costs and fun-to-drive nature, it remains one of best cars for everyday use.
