Maruti Suzuki Dzire Safety Features

Maruti Suzuki Dzire Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Excellent fuel efficiency from the 1.2-litre Z-Series engine, delivering up to 25.71 km/l on petrol AMT variants and 33.73 km/kg on the S-CNG version.
  • Six airbags are standard across the range, while the new Dzire has earned a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating for adult and child occupant protection.
  • Premium features such as an electric sunroof, 360-degree camera, wireless phone charger and a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system are available on higher variants.
  • Light steering, compact dimensions and good visibility make the Dzire easy to drive and park in city traffic.
  • Rear AC vents, fast-charging USB ports and rear reading lamps improve comfort and convenience for passengers.
  • The latest design is more premium and distinctive, giving the Dzire a stronger identity than previous generations.

Cons

  • The 1.2-litre Z-Series engine prioritises fuel efficiency over outright performance, so enthusiastic drivers may find it less exciting.
  • The 5-speed AMT is convenient in traffic but is not as smooth or refined as a conventional automatic or CVT.
  • Some rivals offer additional features such as ADAS, rain-sensing wipers, an auto-dimming IRVM and a front centre armrest.
  • Factory-fitted S-CNG variants are available only with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
  • Features such as the electric sunroof, wireless phone charger and 360-degree camera are reserved for the higher variants.

The Maruti Suzuki Dzire has long been one of India’s most popular compact sedans, and the latest generation takes it a step further with a sharper design, a new engine and a longer list of features. It’s still focused on efficiency, practicality and low running costs, but now comes with a genuinely more premium cabin, added convenience and 6 airbags as standard on every variant. Whether you’re a first-time buyer, a daily commuter or a fleet/taxi buyer, the new Dzire makes a strong case for itself.

The biggest mechanical change is the 1.2-litre Z-Series petrol engine (Z12E), the same unit used in the new Swift, paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox. If you want lower running costs, there’s also a factory-fitted CNG option, offered on the VXi and ZXi variants with manual transmission only. The Dzire returns a certified fuel efficiency of 24.79 km/l on manual, 25.71 km/l on AMT and 33.73 km/kg on CNG. These numbers are strong enough for Maruti Suzuki to call the manual petrol Dzire India’s most fuel-efficient sedan (as of October 2024). Even with the focus on efficiency, the engine has decent low-end torque, so it doesn’t feel sluggish in city traffic.

On the outside, the new Dzire gets a wider front grille, LED Crystal Vision headlamps with sleek LED DRLs on the ZXi and ZXi+, a shark fin antenna, an aero boot lip spoiler and a 3D Trinity LED tail lamp design across all variants. The ZXi comes with painted alloy wheels while the ZXi+ gets two-tone precision-cut alloys; the LXi and VXi make do with steel wheels, though the VXi adds full wheel covers. The ZXi+ also gets auto-fold ORVMs. At 3995 mm long, 1735 mm wide and with a 2450 mm wheelbase, the car is still easy to drive and park in the city, and it offers a good 382-litre boot on petrol variants.

The cabin has moved noticeably upmarket too. All variants get a dual-tone black and beige interior, and the ZXi and ZXi+ add satin silver and wood-finish accents. The top ZXi+ variant is loaded with an electric sunroof, a 22.86 cm SmartPlay Pro+ touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise control and rear reading lamps. The VXi and ZXi get a 17.78 cm SmartPlay Pro touchscreen, automatic climate control and rear AC vents, and both the ZXi and ZXi+ come with a wireless phone charger. Practical touches like a height-adjustable driver seat, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, and rear fast-charging USB ports (Type-A and Type-C) are available from the VXi upward.

Safety has also improved a lot. Every Dzire variant now gets 6 airbags, ESP, Hill Hold Assist, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat anchorages, reverse parking sensors and the Suzuki HEARTECT body as standard. The ZXi adds a reverse parking camera, and the ZXi+ gets a 360-degree HD view camera along with an anti-theft alarm with a shock sensor. Higher variants also come with Suzuki Connect, which gives you safety alerts, driving behaviour tracking and smartwatch/Alexa connectivity.

Overall, the new Maruti Suzuki Dzire remains a well-rounded compact sedan. It’s efficient, spacious and now comes with a much richer set of features than before. With class-leading mileage, Maruti’s large service network, low ownership costs and a genuinely upgraded cabin, it’s still one of the easiest sedans to recommend, whether you want it for personal use or as a dependable family car.
