Maruti Swift, Dzire and Baleno CNG AMT: Price, Mileage and Features

Maruti Suzuki has introduced automatic CNG versions of the Swift, Dzire and Baleno in India. The new models combine the company’s factory-fitted S-CNG technology with a five-speed Auto Gear Shift (AGS), also known as an automated manual transmission (AMT).
The move gives buyers a new option if they want the lower running costs of CNG but do not want to use a clutch pedal in city traffic.
The new Swift CNG AMT starts at ₹7.92 lakh, while the Baleno CNG AMT starts at ₹8.32 lakh and the Dzire CNG AMT starts at ₹8.53 lakh, ex-showroom. Maruti claims CNG fuel efficiency of up to 36.47 km/kg for the Dzire, 35.34 km/kg for the Swift and 34.47 km/kg for the Baleno.
Here is everything you need to know about Maruti’s new automatic CNG cars.

Maruti also lists multiple CNG AGS versions. The Swift is listed with VXi CNG AGS, VXi (O) CNG AGS and ZXi CNG AGS variants. The Dzire is offered with VXi CNG AGS and ZXi CNG AGS variants.
Prices can change, so buyers should check the latest price applicable at the time of purchase.
What Is CNG AMT?
The new Maruti CNG cars use the company’s Auto Gear Shift (AGS) technology.
AGS is Maruti’s name for an automated manual transmission. It uses an intelligent actuator to operate the clutch and change gears automatically.
For the driver, the main difference is simple: there is no clutch pedal.
The Swift, Dzire and Baleno CNG AGS have two pedals, like other automatic cars. The gearbox changes gears automatically, while the driver can also select gears manually when required.
Maruti says the five-speed system is designed to make driving more convenient in heavy traffic and city conditions.
It is worth remembering that an AMT is mechanically different from a conventional torque-converter automatic or a CVT. The gearbox is based on a manual transmission, with the clutch and gear changes operated automatically.
Maruti CNG Automatic Mileage
Fuel efficiency is one of the main reasons buyers choose CNG, and Maruti has published the following certified figures for its new automatic CNG models:
| Model | CNG fuel efficiency |
| Dzire CNG AGS | 36.47 km/kg |
| Swift CNG AGS | 35.34 km/kg |
| Baleno CNG AGS | 34.47 km/kg |
The Dzire has the highest claimed figure of the three at 36.47 km/kg. Maruti says the Dzire figure was certified by JATO Dynamics on September 18, 2026.
The fuel-efficiency figures are certified test-cycle figures under Rule 115 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989. Actual mileage will depend on traffic, driving style, vehicle load, air-conditioning use and other conditions.
So, these numbers should not be treated as guaranteed real-world mileage.

Engine and Performance
All three cars use Maruti Suzuki’s 1.2-litre Z12E petrol engine with Dual Variable Valve Timing (Dual VVT) and Idle Start Stop (ISS) technology.
In petrol mode, the engine produces:
- 82.93 PS
- 112.4 Nm
In CNG mode, the output is:
- 69.75 PS
- 101.8 Nm
The CNG version is paired with the five-speed AGS automatic transmission.
The important point for buyers is that the automatic transmission does not turn these into performance-oriented cars. The main purpose of the combination is to provide two-pedal convenience while retaining the running-cost advantage associated with CNG.
Swift, Baleno and Dzire CNG AMT: What’s Different?
Although all three cars use the same basic engine and transmission technology, they are aimed at slightly different buyers.
Maruti Swift CNG AMT
The Swift is the smallest and most affordable of the three automatic CNG models.
The CNG AGS range currently includes VXi, VXi (O) and ZXi variants. The entry-level VXi CNG AGS is priced at ₹7.92 lakh ex-showroom, while the higher variants cost more.
The Swift makes the most sense for buyers who want a relatively compact hatchback for daily city driving and want to combine CNG with an automatic transmission.
Its claimed CNG efficiency is 35.34 km/kg.
Maruti Baleno CNG AMT
The Baleno brings the same basic CNG-AMT combination to Maruti’s premium hatchback range.
The new Baleno is powered by the Z12E engine and is available with both manual and AGS petrol transmissions. Its S-CNG version has now also received the AGS automatic transmission. Maruti’s September 2026 Baleno update introduced the new Z12E powertrain and AGS option across the range.
The Baleno CNG AGS starts at ₹8.32 lakh, ex-showroom, and has a claimed CNG efficiency of 34.47 km/kg.
The Baleno is therefore positioned between the Swift and Dzire in terms of price while offering a larger premium hatchback body style.
Maruti Dzire CNG AMT
The Dzire is the sedan option in the new CNG automatic range.
The CNG AGS is currently listed in VXi and ZXi variants. The VXi CNG AGS starts at ₹8.53 lakh, while the ZXi CNG AGS is listed at ₹9.53 lakh on Maruti’s current variant page.
The Dzire also has the highest claimed CNG fuel efficiency of the three at 36.47 km/kg.
Maruti describes it as India’s most fuel-efficient sedan based on the JATO Dynamics certification dated September 18, 2026.
Swift vs Baleno vs Dzire CNG AMT
Here is how the three compare on the main specifications announced by Maruti:
| Specification | Swift CNG AGS | Baleno CNG AGS | Dzire CNG AGS |
| Engine | 1.2L Z12E | 1.2L Z12E | 1.2L Z12E |
| Transmission | 5-speed AGS | 5-speed AGS | 5-speed AGS |
| CNG power | 69.75 PS | 69.75 PS | 69.75 PS |
| CNG torque | 101.8 Nm | 101.8 Nm | 101.8 Nm |
| Claimed CNG mileage | 35.34 km/kg | 34.47 km/kg | 36.47 km/kg |
| Starting price | ₹7.92 lakh | ₹8.32 lakh | ₹8.53 lakh |
| Body style | Hatchback | Premium hatchback | Sedan |
The engine and transmission specifications are common to all three models, while the body style, equipment and pricing vary.
What Features Do the CNG AMT Cars Get?
The equipment depends on the variant, so buyers should not assume that every feature available on the petrol version is offered on every CNG AGS version.
For example, Swift gets features such as a SmartPlay Pro touchscreen, side and curtain airbags and Hill Hold Assist on the relevant variants.
The Dzire’s CNG AGS range includes VXi and ZXi versions. The VXi CNG AGS gets features including six airbags, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, while the ZXi CNG AGS adds equipment such as LED Crystal Vision lighting, alloy wheels and push-button start with Smart Key.
The new Baleno also gets a substantially updated equipment package. Maruti’s September 2026 update introduced features including Level 2 ADAS, six airbags, ESP, ABS with EBD, Hill Hold Control, reverse parking sensors and TPMS, although equipment varies by variant.
For a buyer considering a specific car, it is therefore better to compare the exact CNG AGS variant rather than looking only at the model name.
What Is Maruti’s S-CNG Technology?
The CNG system in these cars is factory-fitted by Maruti Suzuki rather than being an aftermarket conversion.
Maruti says its S-CNG system uses an Intelligent Injection System to maintain an appropriate air-fuel ratio. It also uses stainless-steel pipes and joints in the CNG system, integrated wiring and a microswitch that prevents the vehicle from starting while CNG is being refuelled.
The company also says the S-CNG system is tested at its research and development facility for safety, performance and durability.
The new models additionally use Idle Start Stop technology, which can switch off the engine when the vehicle is stationary and restart it when required. Maruti says this is intended to help save fuel during heavy traffic.
Why Has Maruti Added Automatic Gearboxes to CNG Cars?
Until now, buyers looking for a factory-fitted CNG car often had to choose between CNG and an automatic gearbox depending on the model.
The new Swift, Baleno and Dzire CNG AGS versions bring both together.
This is particularly relevant for people who spend a lot of time in urban traffic. A manual CNG car can offer low running costs, but repeated clutch operation in stop-and-go traffic can become tiring.
With AGS, the driver does not have to operate a clutch pedal or manually change gears.
Maruti’s own sales figures also show why the company is expanding its CNG range. It says S-CNG sales increased 58% year-on-year in the first quarter of the current year, while July 2026 recorded its highest-ever monthly S-CNG sales at 83,000 units.
Is CNG AMT Better Than CNG Manual?
There is no single answer for every buyer.
The automatic version adds convenience, particularly in heavy traffic, but it also costs more than the equivalent manual CNG version.
An AMT can also behave differently from a conventional automatic. Gear changes may be more noticeable, particularly during quick acceleration. Drivers who are already comfortable with a manual gearbox may not see the need to pay extra for the automatic.
On the other hand, someone who spends hours in city traffic may value the absence of a clutch pedal more than the additional purchase cost.
The choice therefore comes down to how the car will be used.
What Should You Check Before Buying a CNG Automatic?
Before choosing one of these cars, consider the following:
1. CNG availability
Check whether CNG stations are convenient on your regular routes. A high claimed mileage figure is less useful if you frequently have to make a separate trip to refuel.
2. Your annual running
CNG tends to make more sense for buyers who drive regularly. If your annual mileage is low, the additional purchase price of a CNG vehicle may take longer to recover through fuel savings.
3. Your traffic conditions
This is where the AGS setup could be particularly useful. If most of your driving involves stop-and-go city traffic, removing the need to operate a clutch can make daily driving easier.
4. Real-world mileage
Do not calculate your ownership costs using only the claimed 35.34, 36.47 or 34.47 km/kg figures.
Your actual fuel economy will vary depending on traffic, driving habits, air-conditioning use and load.
5. Variant features
Check the exact equipment of the variant you intend to buy. Features such as larger infotainment systems, alloy wheels, additional convenience equipment and advanced safety technologies may not be available across the entire CNG AGS range.
Maruti Suzuki’s Auto Green Mission
The launch of the three automatic CNG models is part of what Maruti Suzuki calls its Auto Green Mission.
The company says the strategy is intended to expand its range of vehicles using alternative powertrains. The new CNG AMT models add automatic driving convenience to its existing factory-fitted S-CNG portfolio.
For buyers, however, the more important part of the announcement is simpler: CNG is no longer limited to a manual gearbox in these three models.
The Swift, Baleno and Dzire now give buyers the option of combining a factory-fitted CNG system with a two-pedal automatic transmission.
Bottom Line
Maruti Suzuki’s new Swift, Baleno and Dzire CNG AMT models address a fairly specific requirement: buyers who want the running-cost benefits of factory-fitted CNG but prefer not to drive a manual car in heavy traffic.
The three cars use the same 1.2-litre Z12E engine and five-speed AGS transmission, but offer different body styles and equipment levels. The Swift has the lowest starting price, the Baleno offers the premium hatchback body style, while the Dzire has the highest claimed CNG efficiency of the three.
The key figures are straightforward: ₹7.92 lakh for the Swift, ₹8.32 lakh for the Baleno and ₹8.53 lakh for the Dzire, all ex-showroom starting prices. Claimed CNG efficiency stands at 35.34 km/kg, 34.47 km/kg and 36.47 km/kg, respectively.
For buyers who spend a lot of time in city traffic and have easy access to CNG, the new automatic versions add another option to the Maruti lineup. Whether the higher purchase price makes sense will depend largely on annual running, local CNG prices and how much the driver values two-pedal convenience.
